Rove LA - premieres on Fox8, September 19 at 8.30pm

On September 19 at 8.30pm - and exclusive to FOX8 - the Australian premiere of Rove LA finally hits screens after weeks of clever teaser ad campaigns.

Watch this fun clip:

And this one:

Multiple TV Week Gold Logie winner, Rove McManus, is returning to Australian television – and this time he’s gone all Hollywood-style. I must say, it suits him.

Rove LA will see Rove go back to where he seems most comfy – in comedy driven talk show in front of a live audience, chatting to celebrities. Incorporating the hottest guests as well as Rove’s take on the LA way of life, this exclusive one hour series seems the perfect vehicle to welcome Rove McManus back to the telly.

Shot at CBS Television City in Los Angeles, Rove LA will provide viewers with a weekly slice of Hollywood. Produced by Rove's company Roving Enterprises, Rove LA is executive produced by Craig Campbell, Rove's long-time creative partner and the driving force behind the 7PM Project.

Rove has a-US based production team, led by Todd Yasui, one-time Tonight Show booker and former head of Late Night at Fox Network in the US.

Rove said: “The time for lounging by the pool has gone on long enough. I feel recharged and excited about starting a new show in a new home but then again, it’s hard not to be when you’re one floor up from Drew Carey’s Price Is Right. So far it’s been a lot of fun putting the new show together and more than anything I’m looking forward to being back on Aussie screens on FOX8.”

Group Channel Manager, FOX8 Duane Hatherly said: “Rove is an icon of the industry and we are honoured that his comeback to Australian television is on FOX8. There is no doubt his humour and presence has been missed and this new series is a sensational addition to our already impressive Australian production slate. We can’t wait for the premiere on September 19!”

Either can I!

Revenge, on Insight - SBS. How far would you go?

On this week's Insight - to screen Tuesday, 6 September 7.30pm on SBS ONE - the topic is revenge.

It’s powerful, and it plays out in many arenas - the most obvious is in the area of bitter break-ups, and extends to neighbourhood disputes, friendships, and even to politics and sport.

Revenge can make people, well, lose their 'nana and act in ways considered not in character, leading them to act out against former partners, colleagues and companies.

In this episode, Insight asks whether humans are hardwired for revenge, and whether it can ever be justified (some of the examples on tonight's ep will make your head spin).

Some of those who take revenge say the wrongdoer is simply getting what they deserve and that justice is being done. But others say that ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’ – and that revenge won’t make you feel better anyway. Watch the various examples and see what side of the fence you sit on...

Host Jenny Brockie leads the discussion and tonight's interesting guests include:

Warren Mallard, a private investigator, who sees a large number of cases driven by revenge. He says he’s been threatened with death, had his car torched, tyres punctured, and windows smashed as payback for cases he’s worked on. He believes revenge most hurts the person who enacts it.

Paul Gyulavary, who lost his twin brother and only sibling, Peter, in the 9/11 terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York. Paul confessed to a sense of jubilation after hearing of the death of Osama bin Laden, but then he wondered whether his reaction was appropriate. He says neither revenge nor forgiveness are factors for him.

Mike McCullough, an evolutionary psychologist from the University of Miami and author of Beyond Revenge – the Evolution of the Forgiveness Instinct. He says revenge and happiness both stem from the same area of the brain and that, in evolutionary terms, revenge was ‘created’ because of its value in deterring harm.

Pauline Clayton (perhaps my favourite), who racked up $20,000 on her husband’s credit cards after he left her for another woman. She also threw her husband’s beloved golf clubs in the swimming pool and cut the backs out of dozens of his Yves St Laurent shirts (ooh, nasty!).

Niromi de Soyza, who joined the Tamil Tigers at age 17 to avenge the government sanctioned atrocities against Tamils in Sri Lanka. After a year of guerrilla warfare and witnessing the violent deaths of many close friends, Niromi says she came to believe that violence and revenge are not the answer.

Dave Carroll: after United Airlines damaged his beloved guitar, Dave recorded a song “United Breaks Guitars” which went viral on YouTube. The song notched up 10 million hits on the video-sharing site and became a public relations headache for the airline (see the song on the show tonight). But Carroll doesn’t view his actions as revenge.

What would you do in the name of revenge? Better still - what have you done? C'mon, spill. Comment - and feel free to remain anonymous...

Insight is hosted by Jenny Brockie and airs on SBS ONE every Tuesday at 7.30pm.

Kim Kardashian People Magazine Wedding Cover

What?

You're over the Kardashian PR machine?

They've only just begun.

Deemed the US's answer to the recent British Royal Wedding, the Kardashian/Humphries nuptials was certainly the most lavish, OTT celebrity wedding of the year.

"It was like we were in heaven," Kardashian tells this week's People magazine in the highly anticipated cover story exclusive - with all the wedding photo pics - for the US mag (expect Australia's Who magazine to release their Kim/Kris cover tomorrow).

Adds Humphries: "I'm going to remember how perfect it was."

Interestingly, it is only Kim who appears on the cover of People mag (the mag paid a reported US $1.5 million for the happy snaps). Surely, the wedding is not all about her, is it? Is it?

Their wedding planner Sharon Sacks says the couple mixed tradition with over-the-top glamour at their August 20 ceremony, held at a private estate in Montecito, California.

"Kim loves black and white and so does Kris," says Sacks. "They have this Hollywood royalty feeling and the black and white represented formality. But tradition was very important to them."

Wearing a custom-designed Vera Wang gown, Kardashian says she "felt like a princess."

But, she adds, "Glam aside, that wasn’t our main goal. It was really about our family and each other.”

And milking this cash cow for all its worth, baby.

Kardashian Wedding: all the teeny, tiny details

For some, there are more pressing issues in the world.

Sure, agreed.

For others, the details are crucial.

And so, in the interest in serving the latter group, here are alll the teeny, tiny deets on what went down at the Kardashian/Humphries wedding.

Here goes:

Date: Saturday, 20th August 2011

Time: Scheduled for 6pm but the ceremony kicked off at 6.37pm (told you we had all the tiny details)

Location: Montecito, California – the estate of Google Executive Eric Schmidt

Kim’s dresses: all Vera Wang

For the ceremony – a custom-made strapless gown with full tulle skirt

For the reception - an ivory mermaid gown with hand-pieced chantilly lace appliqué on the bodice and a skirt with hand-cut organza petals intermixed with chantilly lace motifs and organza sprig embroidery;

For the after party – a crepe-back, V-neck satin gown with a circle skirt

Kim’s hair: an up-do with a diamond garland (set to be copied the world over)

Kris’s tuxedos: Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedo with a white lapel jacket and tie and black trousers; Kris swapped his white jacket and bowtie for black at the reception

Rings: Lorraine Schwartz wedding bands

Matron and Maids of Honour: Khloe Kardashian-Odom and Kourtney Kardashian

Bridesmaids: Kendall and Kylie Kardashian

Bridesmaids dresses: ivory Vera Wang (same for the mother of the bride Kris Jenner)

Groomsmen: Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedos (same for Bruce Jenner and Kris’s dad, William Humphries)

Ring bearer: Mason Disick (Scott and Kourtney's son)

Theme: black and white – all the guests were told to go still the colour scheme

Catering: Wolfgang Puck

Menu:

Starter – buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomato salad with basil and "tomato chips"

Main – choice of hand-formed agnolotti with sweet corn mascarpone and summer truffles, or roast chicken with Yukon Gold potato puree, caramelised brussel sprouts and summer truffles

Cake – multi-tiered chocolate-and-vanilla swirl cake studded with chocolate chips

Music:

First dance – Robin Thicke sang his song “Angels”, then transitioned into “Let’s Stay Together”

Later, Earth, Wind & Fire played "September", and later still, a DJ spun tunes

Guests: stepbrother Brody Jenner and girlfriend Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan with mother Dina and sister Ali, Eva Longoria and her BF (Penelope Cruz's brother Edoardo), Ryan Seacrest (also the Keeping Up With The Kardashians producer) and his GF Julianne Hough, Ken Baker, Demi Lovato, Kathy Lee Gifford, Mel B, Sugar Ray Leonard, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Alan Thicke, Mario Lopez, Ciara, Joe Francis, George Lopez, Serena Williams, and entertainment reporters Lara Spencer and Maria Menounos.

Members of the New Jersey Nets (Humphries's team) were also given the all-clear to gather for the wedding, despite a rule that prevents teammates from being in contact during the NBA lockout. Jordan Farmar, Humphries's Nets cohort is in fact the guy who introduced the bride and groom.

For the broadcast of the wedding you will have to wait a little while: Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event will air Tuesday and Wednesday, October 11 and 12, at 8.30pm, on E!

Okay, now you know all there is to know... so far.

Kim Kardashian: 'The Wedding', and what she scored

You've got to hand it to the Kardashians - the sure know how to broker a deal.

Kim Kardashian is set to rake in US$17.9 million for her wedding with Kris Humphries.

Oh yes, people. Thirty year old Kim is expected to pull in anywhere between US$12 million to US$15 million for her E! special Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event, which will air in Australia October 11 and 12.

This savvy businesswoman (who are we kidding? She's gone far, far beyond being a mere 'reality star' - Paris Hilton must be sobbing in her piles of designer gear) is financially set: between selling her exclusive wedding pics to US People magazine (to be reproduced in Aussie sister mag Who magazine), her bridal shower pics to OK! mag as well as her Las Vegas bachelorette party, this woman is all sorted. Now all she needs to do is, y'know, remember why she got married.

Here's a breakdown of what they got (all is US figures):

* $15 million (plus profit) for the four-hour, two-part wedding special on E!

* $2.5 million for the exclusive pics with US People magazine

* $300,000 for the exclusive engagement announcement with People

* $100,000 for exclusive rights to her bridal shower with Britain’s OK! mag

* $50,000 to have her hen's night at Tao in Las Vegas

* $15,000 to $20,000 for the Hansen’s Bakery wedding cake

* $20,000 for the Vera Wang wedding dress and fittings

* $40,000 for two more Vera Wang evening dresses

* $400,000 in Perrier Jouet Champagne

* $150,000 in hair and makeup for photo shoots and TV “home video”

* $10,000 for the Lehr & Black wedding invitations

* $2 million for the (gasp) 20.5-carat engagement ring and $1 million wedding bands by the US jeweller Lorraine Schwartz, which were said to be hugely discounted.

Here are the pics from the E! televised special. Brace yourself... it's set to be two months (and beyond) of Kardashian-saturation.

Shane Warne: metrosexual much? Do women always want to change their men?

So, you've witnessed the recent evolution of Shane Warne.

And many of us have an opinion about it. A very vocal one.

But how many women have changed their men. Go on. Admit it.

You meet a bloke. You want to tweak. You know, maybe just a tad.

Soon, you're buying him clothes. Suggesting a new hairdresser, perhaps. Maybe even taking him to the shops, undertaking a makeover akin to an ep of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy.

He doesn't seem to mind. May he's even enjoying the attention.

And then, well... you go a step too far. You tell him those jeans are all wrong, those glasses just daggy, that jacket out of date, the shoes... well, they just have to go.

He repels, recoils... and you retreat. For now.

When the dust settles, you go subtle. Much more. No need to hurt his feelings, you decide. That comes later when you've been together for years. Ha.

And then there's Liz Hurley,

The chat is around how much pull she's had on Shane Warne's new look.

When the first photo of Warnie's obv transformation emerged she came to his defence, declaring that the sheen on Shane's lips was probs the transfer of her lipgloss onto his smacker. You know, when she planted one on him.

We didn't buy it. We let it go. For now.

Then new pics emerged. The dramatic weight loss. The cinched in waist. The OTT tan.

And then, the final straw: the colour coordinated golfing outfit. The perfectly coiffed hair. The overall Ken doll appearance. It's all too much, we cried.

When, oh when would we have our badly-bleached, zinc-covered, pot-bellied Warnie back?

C'arn, spill: why does Warnie's new look bother you so much?

And have you ever pulled a Hurley?

Go on, share... no judgement!

Kim Kardashian's Wedding: Your (Televised) Invitation

So, I am guessing you've heard a small wedding, a family affair will be taking place this Saturday, US time?

You know the one - a Kardashian branded shindig which will cost squillions though will be reimbursed by gazillions worth of endorsements, product placements, and freebies.

People magazine will be running the pics (Australia's Who magazine sister publication, which means they will also run the highly sought photos) and you can bet the estimated cool half 2.5 mill they paid for it will be well worth the money in mag sales.

Kim's engagement story also ran in People; see link here: http://josiesjuice.blogspot.com/2011/05/kim-kardashians-engagement-ring-too.html

And you can see the whole, televised thing (over not one, but two nights) on the E! channel, on Tuesday October 11, and Wednesday October 12.

Prepare for Kardashian media [over] saturation...

Reality TV: how much is too much? Russell Armstrong's sad death.

With the news overnight that Russell Armstrong - estranged husband of Taylor Armstrong from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills - was found dead at his home, myriad questions are raised about the 'reality' of reality TV shows.

See a news reel here:

And read more of the story here:

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-russell-armstrong-20110817,0,3391963.story

The interesting part of this reality phenomenon (the "Real Housewives" franchise launched in 2006, following five women living in Orange County, and has since spawned spin off shows in New Jersey, New York City and Atlanta) is that the appeal is around watching these women lead apparently fulfilled, opulent, often OTT lives.

The real reality of these reality shows is that at least six "Housewives" have instigated divorce proceedings since being on various versions of the shows, and around the same number have filed for bankruptcy since filming started.

It all begs the question: how much of the show is staged (nooo, impossible!) to suit the template of the show's [affluent] premise. And is it all a little too much, in every respect?

Maxim Australia Launch - Social Photos

The attendance numbers for the Maxim Australia magazine launch party - held on Tuesday July 20 - was testament to how well known the international brand is. And how Sydney folk will brave torrential rain and strong winds to attend an event with clout.

In fact, the Australian edition of Maxim is the 25th edition of the magazine, globally.

Says editor Santi Pintado in his editor's note: "Maxim arrives to serve your every want and need. Our mission is to make you laugh, make you think and make you fall in love with God's greatest creation - women."

There was plenty of that kinda eye candy on the evening of the launch event: Nikki Phillips, Jesinta Campbell, Bella Serventi, and the mag's own gorgeous fashion editor Livia Tassanyi.

With plenty of booze flowing throughout the night (the Maxim Russian Standard Red Devil custom created cocktail – a combination of Russian Standard Gold and raspberry gelato, garnished with ruby red craisins cocktail, complete with its the Maxim devil's horn-topped swizzle stick) plus Canadian Club & Dry, Pure Blonde, Two Italian Boys, POM Wonderful and Red Bull.

The delish canapes came from Toast Events, and the event was MC-ed by Andrew Voss, while DJ duo The Faders and Australian singer Zoe Badwi kept the crowd entertained with their performances throughout the night. The Polite In Public photobooth was also on hand for guests, who wore angel and devil themed props, taking home snaps from the evening.

On my way home, I snuck a peek into my goodie bag and as I had a quick flick through the launch issue of Maxim (there is MUCH to read, peeps - the column by Chris Lilley and the one by Kyle Sandilands were very entertaining reads) I was thrilled to see Josie's Juice fave men's undie brand Sly Underwear in the Maxim Top 10. Winning!

David Beckham: why we named daughter Harper Seven

David Beckham talks - for the first time - about why they chose the names Harper and Seven for the their new baby girl (hint: the latter has nothing to do with Seinfeld..):

Britex: porn for your home

What do you think of this ad?

Is it a tad OTT?

Is the 1970s porn reference just a little... too much?

I first spotted this ad a few days ago, while on was on the phone, with the TV on mute. My jaw was... down here. I watched it again and was just... slightly weirded out.

Prudish? Me? Never! But just... ugh.

It IS very clever, though. I have indeed read all the studies and surveys and heard the anecdotes which say that seeing your man clean is a total aphrodisiac. Anyone who knows the husb and I knows that this kinda action happens nightly 'round here. I am not talking the porno music and bad clothes and no-storyline-crazy-sex-role-playing (well... ahem) but the obsessive cleaning and house-must-be-spotless. His thing. Not mine.

So, is it a turn-on? Well...

This TV ad is one in a series of 'Steam Up Your Carpet' from DIY steam cleaning company Britex, who have been hiring out steam cleaners at your local Woolies for yonks.

There's also this one:

The Only Way Is Essex: Series Two - LifeStyle YOU

So, have you given in to the TOWIE phenomenon?

Don't worry. I had to Google that, too. After my UK buddie Laury and fellow The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE - geddit?) fan threw that term my way.

Here's a crash course in this mad, mad world of these Essex reality stars:

http://josiesjuice.blogspot.com/2011/02/only-way-is-essex-whole-other-planet.html

and this:

http://josiesjuice.blogspot.com/2011/01/only-way-is-essex-addictive-tv-viewing.html

My friend Laury also introduced me to the word 'reem'.

"It means 'good', and it was used a lot in the East End, although Joey Essex [also on TOWIE, and yes, that's his surname] has brought it back in fashion, so whole hoardes of chavvy youngsters are now going round calling everything 'reem'," she says.

Don't worry, if you are yet to experience the curious world of TOWIE, you will catch on pretty quickly.

The second series will premiere exclusively on LifeStyle You on Monday July 25, at 9.30pm.

Outrageous and completely addictive, TOWIE will have you somehow hooked and interested in the world of tanning and vajazzling, fake boobs, fake hair, and fake relationships, and all the superficial pursuits of Essex ladies and lads.

“LifeStyle YOU is a channel that prides itself on finding unique and exciting reality and docu-soaps,” said Nicole Sheffield, General Manager, LifeStyle Channels.

“The Only Way Is Essex has been a huge hit with our viewers both on screen and online. It was no surprise to us that the series picked up the only viewer voted BAFTA TV Award recently, it has great talkability and is highly addictive.”

TOWIE follows the 'drama'-filled lives of: nightclub promoter Mark and his and fashionista fiancée Lauren Goodger; aspiring singer James Argent, club owner Kirk Norcross; beautician Amy Childs; her colourful cousin Harry Debridge (I think he steals the show, although I can barely decipher his vocab); and glamour model Sam Faiers, plus new faces, yum-mum Chloe Simms and her 'clueless' fashion forward cousin Joey Essex.

TOWIE is the winner of the 2011 BAFTA You Tube Audience Award.

THE ONLY WAY IS ESSEX screens Mondays at 9.30pm from July 25 on LifeStyle YOU available on FOXTEL and AUSTAR.
