Could there be a more beautiful face to grace a magazine cover?
Adele is covergirl for yet another mag, with yet another close-up of her flawless face and perfect features.
This time, it's her cover debut for British Vogue, where she wears a lace dress, to order, from Burberry. Makeup colours are from the Tom Ford Color Cosmetics collection, applied by Charlotte Tilbury. Hair is done using Label M, and by Samantha Hillerby.
Jennifer Lopez has appeared in her first interview since announcing her divorce from husband Marc Anthony - and heck, she'll have famed photog Mario Testino shoot her semi-naked if she wants to.
In the interview, she tells the magazine:
“That was my biggest dream, and I really worked hard at it. We both did. Sometimes it doesn’t work—and that’s sad. But I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love,” she says. “It’s still my biggest dream. I am positive—determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong.”
“I’m a hopeless romantic and passionate person when it comes to love,” she continues.
"It’s not that I didn’t love myself before. Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself—if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now.”
Hey journos, how about not asking Kylie Minogue the baby question anymore when you interview her?
It makes her visibly uncomfortable (although she's pretty adept at deflecting) and it's awkward all 'round.
That may be because, you know, she's been trying to actually have a baby. And it's not happening. Or she may have fertility issues connected to her cancer battle. Whatever it is, it's kinda rude to ask the baby question to a woman of a certain age.
It is so putting-you-on-the-spot it's not funny. Because if you think to ask a woman that question, it's likely that you already know the answer: that she really is trying to fall pregnant.
If she's in a committed relationship, has been for a while, and/or is over 30, she is highly likely (but not always) trying to have a baby. Which means that this month she wasn't successful. Maybe she just got her period that morning and is feeling fairly delicate. Or perhaps she just got the news the second round of IVF didn't work out. Or she just had a miscarriage.
In any of these scenarios, she needn't have to explain herself to you. Or try to choke back her tears. Or give herself away - by choking those tears - because you were too insenstive to ask. Seriously.
I will admit I really (really!) did not enjoy getting 'the question' when we were trying to fall pregnant. Especially from people who should have known better - those close enough to me (but generally not interested in the usual goings on in my life), to know it could be an issue. That kinda reeks of 'getting the gossip', not a question laced with concern or love.
So imagine how Kylie feels, with a camera pointed in her face?
Here is how Kylie reacted to the question, when asked by the A Current Affair reporter:
"Ah, the family question...
"Only because I can't give you an answer...
"If it's meant to be it's meant to be.
"If family isn't it my future I know that I have those boys [her nephews]."
When asked if she was planning to go down the surrogacy route, she was equally (and understandably) cagey:
"Who knows? There are many ways to have a family."
There are indeed, Kylie! And whatever you do - and how you do it - is your business.
C'mon, media. Let's keep it comfy for our Kyles....
Pop star Rihanna is the July 2011 covergirl for US Cosmopolitan magazine.
In the interview, she is asked how she likes her men, and Rihanna duly replies: “Hot and hung, but sweet will do!"
Well, alrighty then.
“I'm turned on to a guy by different things. It could be the way he looks. It could be his intelligence. It's really a spontaneous thing."
She added: “I'm open to love but guys should have to earn it because the minute they get it, they want something else. Men are like hunters; they like the chase. So you have to keep them guessing.
“Actually, I'm like that too. I get bored very quickly. So if someone can make me laugh, that's the best.”
Voila! The latest edition of Cosmopolitan Middle East has just hit the news stands and it features the white-hot-right-now Blake Lively.
Meanwhile, Lily Allen and her sister Sarah Owen jetted in to Dubai to launch their fashion line, Lucy in Disguise (brill name), and sat down for a chat with Cosmopolitan Middle East deputy editor Aoife Stuart. The three had a girly afternoon catch-up, while Lily couldn't keep her hands off the fresh new June Cosmo.
Out magazine features singer Adele in the most gorgeous shoot, with glorious close-ups of her divine face (her makeup artist - and hairdresser - needs a raise. Simply flawless!).
The last time Britney Spears appeared on the cover of US Harper's Bazaar was back in 2006 - pregnant and nude.
This time, she's clothed -in a low-cut white dress.
In the mag, Brit opens up about her life.
"I'm pretty normal, you know? Like I said, the type of day I love is just like everybody else's. I'm like everybody else," she says in the issue.
Spears seems content with the way fans have reacted to her recently released Femme Fatale album. "I've worked so hard on this album, so it's really refreshing," she said. "I feel like I'm drinking a tall glass of homemade sweet tea on a really hot, beautiful day."
She also talked about getting in shape for her upcoming tour. "I love to dance, so it's very exciting," she said. "The tour rehearsals have been going really well. I think it will be my best show yet."
The second shot to hit the web features Britney with a graffiti-painted wall as a backdrop, wearing a flowing, black star-print dress.
Katy Perry is looking be-yond va-va-voom on the cover of the June 2011 issue of US Vanity Fair.
She talks to contributing editor Lisa Robinson on her marriage to Russell Brand, saying there is “never a dull moment” and that Brand has “never lied to me once. I trust him; there’s just a level of trust that we’ve built up.”
“The press is just not your friend when it comes to a marriage,” Perry explains of her need for privacy. “That’s why we didn’t sell the pictures of our wedding, and we got offered millions of dollars for them, millions.”
She adds: “I don’t care what people say about my relationship; I don’t care what they say about my boobs. People are buying my songs; I have a sold-out tour. I’m getting incredible feedback from my music.
“I don’t take anything for granted. There are 500 other girls right behind me. And I know that, because I was one of them. I remember what it’s like to be someone who’s always trying to get there - sending out tons of e-mails… trying to connect with some person who could connect me with some other person. And I wouldn’t be working at this pace now if I didn’t truly know that fame is fleeting.”
“If the core, the honesty, my story, isn’t working, then all those bells and whistles aren’t going to work, either,” she says of staying focused on her music. “Sometimes I can be distracted by the glamour and the fabulousness. But my husband always reminds me to keep the core intact… I just think I have to appreciate every day, every opportunity, work hard, and continue to evolve as an artist. I already know my future evolution, where I’m going to go. I mean, I’m touring in fucking Indonesia, for crying out loud.”
Everything about this new collection from Diva taps into my nostalgic psyche:
I was beyond obsessed with Madonna's Like A Prayer (remixes? I had all of 'em, and played them incessantly).
Was more than fixated on crucifixes (being Italian Catholic, it was only natural).
And I sought out any photo shoot featuring Madonna (the top photo, shot by Herb Ritts, and featuring in Australian Rolling Stone was taped inside my wardrobe).
So, these new Diva pieces are all highly covetable for me - my faves are the turquoise rosary beads and the silvery/crystal cluster of bracelets.
As soon as the announcement was made that visiting popstar Rihanna was to be the final guest at the Sydney tapings of the E! channel Chelsea Lately show, the excitement amongst fans (of both) has mounted.
And the fiery-haired one did not disappoint. As soon as the larger than life star - looking stunning in a black mini, patent beige pumps, and a smattering of divine gold jewellery - came on stage, the audience went slightly nuts. About as nuts as we went the moment host Chelsea Handler stepped onto the Foxtel TV stage.
With the audience made up of lucky ticket holders and media, every person there was a true fan, and it showed (I even spied gorgeous "gender illusionist" Courtney Act in the crowd - no mean feat; he's hard to recognise without the war paint).
We all know the regular "round table" comedians - including Josh Wolf, Brad Wollack, Heather McDonald, Sarah Colonna, and of course Chelsea's sidekick Chuy - and you'd think we'd spotted rockstars as they were intro'ed onto stage.
The workings of a live show are something to behold. I really enjoy watching the behind-the-scenes stuff: the switching of sets, the last minute touch-ups, the lighting tests.
With this show, there are no second takes... what happens is what you see broadcast later. Including all the inappropriate "whoop, whoop, whoop" - although the warm-up guy kinda encourages it. He tells us to "act like Americans" and cheer at anything. Even the inappropriate stuff. We comply, although need no coaxing when the cameras are rolling. (I am sure I'll be hearing my distinctly loud laugh when the show is broadcast on Friday on E!).
Between takes a Chelsea Lately production person trips over lighting and goes, er, "a over t." Chelsea tries to stifle her laughter, though is later thoughtfully checking in on her staffer. Onya Chels.
During the panel part of the show, Chelsea talks about her surprise at the "lack of black people in Australia" (later, her and Rihanna discuss it, and Rihanna admits her delight when she spots dark-skinned audience members at her Australian concerts). Chelsea is, however, rather surprised at our large contingent of Asian-heritaged folk. And to illustrate that she shows us footage of a taxi ride where she feels up a Asian cabbie... the crowd loves it.
The round table panel for this evening's show is made up of the hilarious Josh Wolf, the seriously funny Fortune Feimster, and repping the Australian guest is Adam Hills. Adam's jokes will no doubt create waves in gossip columns and on TV shows, hungry for controversial soundbytes. One joke involves cancer. That got a lot of boos ("Oh c'mon Australia; you don't like cancer jokes?" adds Chelsea, to lighten it up a bit). Hills adds a few more off-colour jokes, but the audience kinda expects un-PC.
It's what Chelsea has built a career on: taking pot shots at celebs; saying the stuff we are really thinking (like, just how many endorsements can the Kardashians really be involved in? And her disdain for Angelina). I don't know of anyone who can get away with so much. And yet she pulls it off superbly. In fact, she's the master at it.
After the show, fans (and media pretending to act cool but genuinely excited to be meeting show guests) hang about for autographs and pics. We don't expect to see Chelsea and definitely not Rihanna. But as fashion stylist Kelly Smythe leaves the corridors (who did she dress? The former or the latter? Both looked impeccable - Chelsea's shoes and dress were to-die-for) we leave with our Chelsea craving satisfied.
If you don't know what the fuss is about, where have you been?
Check out Chelsea Lately, Monday to Saturday at 10.30pm on E!, available on Foxtel, Austar, and Optus.
