Sexpo 2010 - my, how you've grown!

I love Sexpo. There, I said it.

Does that make me a perverted nympho? Well, I don't think so.

But I make no bones about being curious on all that is on offer in the world of sex. Who doesn't?

I read a 'letter to the editor' recently to a serious weekend magazine and I loved reading what a reader wrote in response to a story on the waxing and waning of sexual desire in a long-term partnership. She wrote: "Sex is a fundamental life nutrient for the mind, body, and soul. Sex is not only intrinsic to human happiness, it is also essential to life itself."

Could be a perfect intro for next year's Sexpo press release!

I recall going to the very first Sexpo years ago with, of course, my best buddy. She and I furtively dashed in, hoping we'd know nobody there, while checking out the interesting array of wares on offer. The near naked shows were mesmerising. The out and proud attitude of leather-ed up showgoers and exhibitors was both disarming and liberating. We liked their don't-care approach to life.

The next time I took the boyfriend (now the husband) and we both had the same slightly peeping-Tom attitude (must be that repressive Catholic upbringing!), and then we went the year after. Loads of fun, especially when we were 'mortified' to recognise someone we knew. I still laugh about that. Fast forward to today and the show is viewed in a far healthier manner: wanna get your freak on? Visit Sexpo. Stock up on, er, supplies? Head to Sexpo. Perve on hotties? Yep, Sexpo is the place to do it and not be judged. Basically, if you have a good, healthy curiousity on all that relates to sex, Sexpo is for you. It's now tagged as the 'Health Sexuality and Lifestyle Exhibition', and is a four-day public event looking at all aspects of 'health, adult entertainment, sexuality, and adult lifestyles.'

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sexpo supports The McGrath Foundation. At their recent shows in Brisbane and Adelaide, they raised over $12,000 through collections and completely sold out of the McGrath Official Merchandise. In total, they have raised over $30,000 for 2009/10. Very impressive. The Salvos even have a stall at Sexpo!

The event will feature Russell Gilbert as MC, and special guests Penthouse's Suzie Q, a hypnotist Mark Anthony, HunkMania male revue, and the surprise ticket: Michelle 'Bombshell' McGee. Yes, the other woman in the Jesse James/Sandra Bullock sordid situation. V. curious.

Tickets are $25 or $37 for VIP (see http://www.sexpo.com.au/ for more info) and include a 'love rocket' (tonight only, see website) and an ACP magazine goodie bag.

So who am I going with? Oh, how things have come full circle 'round here. I am again going with the bestie, leaving the hubby very happily at home enjoying a beer, possibly some Hey! Hey! It's Saturday, and minding the kiddies. That's not say I won't bring him a l'il goodie bag of treats...
